Watercolour painting of Colossus. The reference I used is: [link]
I put this in Books/Novels; I suppose that includes comics. I like Colossus; as a character he's generally stoic and heroic in the traditional sense. Plus his last name is Rasputin, which you have to admit is cool. Well I think so anyway. Comments welcome! |

Great job Sam! I especially like the background.
The black shadow part let the drawing down a bit. If the black part look darker, smoother and more solid (think black marker) it'd provide more contrast and your work'd look more striking

The black bits of his body really do look pretty terrible though, I've got to agree with you there. Maybe when I get back home I'll take a black marker to it like you suggest
Thanks for the comment!!
I know what you mean. Sometimes we don't have a perfectly clear ref to work on and we have to cover up the 'unclear' part which isn't easy. My best suggest would be finding another ref to find the details to fill up the gap or put the solid shadow over it as if it means to look that way

...If there were no birds, would we still dream of flying?...
For the background colours I wanted to give a kind of "angry" impression... the idea was that he'd just been hit by a blow of some sort (hence the "smoke" effect below his left torso) and was now gearing up for swift and awesome retribution. But I think my reds were a little too pink perhaps, which is why they look girly. Not something ol' Piotr would like, I expect
Thanks again for the comment; I will try and return the favour as soon as possible!
